亦称“感光录音”。光学录音是以感光材料为媒介记录声音的方法。从20世纪30年代初到50年代初，有声电影主要应用光学录音方法。虽然在有声电影初期曾使用过唱片配音的方法，但用这种方法录制的影片为数不多，时间很短。光学录音进入电影领域后，在世界范围内掀起了从无声电影转入有声电影的高潮，推动了电影事业的大发展。40年代末50年代初磁性录音也进入了电影领域，但大量拷贝仍以光学录音为主；80年代磁性录音和光学录音两种方法并用。
