初学佛的人，看见佛法内，有所谓大乘、小乘；有所谓法相宗、三论宗、天台宗、华严宗、禅宗、净土宗、真言宗、律宗，乃至所谓俱舍成实等宗；已觉得歧路多歧，不知何从措足。再加想求得一位善知识，能原原本本不党不偏的，将各宗各派的概要，开示一下，真不易得。便是想求得这样解说各宗宗旨的一本书，也不易寻求。初学者的这种困难，实在不小。
