产品检测（product testing）是指对即将应市产品是否会受消费者欢迎进行的预测。这种预测从生产者来说是产品设计方面的问题，从消费者来说多数是爱好倾向问题。哈里斯1964年在《广告研究期刊》上发表了《预估消费者对产品设计的反应》一文，他以140位主妇为研究对象，用评定量表求出她们对瓷制餐具不同设计的爱好指数，结果发现，爱好指数与销售实绩之间的相关系数高达0.91。
