明代京军三营之一，由马军、步军组成。明太祖时设大都督府，以节制中外诸军，京城内外置大小二场，分教48卫卒。成祖北迁后，增为72卫。永乐八年（公元1410年）始分步骑军为中军，左右掖，左右哨，称为五军。除在京卫所外，每年又分调中都、山东、河南、大宁各都司兵16万人，轮番到京师操练，称为班军。
