下颌角位于面部下外侧，由于下颌骨升之与下颌骨体部的连接部组成。其外侧为嚼肌粗隆，有嚼肌附着。其内侧为翼肌粗隆，有翼肌附着。左右两侧的下颌角与颏骨及两侧的颧部构成面部的基本轮廓，并与面中份鼻唇等组织器官构成面部形态的基本特点，是面部容貌特征的重要解剖标志之一。
下颌角肥大（Prominent mandibular angle）是由于双侧下颌角明显后突或 外翻所致的一种面部轮廓缺陷，在东方人群中很常见。
