The residual stresses and metallographic observations in heat-affected zone, and fatigue life of a mechanical vibration welding steel plate were compared with those of a ordinary welding steel plate. The comparison results show that mechanical vibration welding can decrease the residual stress in heat-affected zone, refine crystal grain, and improve the fatigue life of the weldment. Under the experimental condition, longitudinal residual stress is reduced by 43%, transversal residual stress is decreased by 25%;
