The dark forest ended, giving way to the harsh orange of a streetlamp, which illuminated a road wending into a large village. Eda paused and listened carefully for any other sounds, but the village was eerily silent. She ignored the feeling of foreboding building in her stomach and followed the road, passing the first few houses and making her way towards the centre of the settlement. She saw no signs of life on the streets and all the windows were dark.
