abstract:Thaksinomics (a portmanteau of "Thaksin" and "economics") is a term used to refer to the economic set of policies of Thaksin Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand from 2001-2006. There has been considerable controversy over the role Thaksinomics has played in Thailand's recovery from the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
Thaksinomics was plenty flawed itself, full of grand plans and dubious connections to the leader's own interests, but at least it faced outward to the world.
Thaksin's CEO style of government and "Thaksinomics" policies, as well as his handling of the tsunami crisis, have until now largely kept him popular with businesses and citizens alike.
