I eagerly tore the seal that kept me from my darling's love, and pulled the letter from it's temporary hiding place. The alluring aroma of her perfume drifted to my nose again and my head spun with the overwhelming feeling of love and want I had for her. I shifted closer to the glow of a nearby lantern and my eyes flew back and forth over the page. As the words on the page started to sink in, I didn't get the answer that I wanted. With each passing word my face fell and piece by agonizing piece was ripped from my heart. The beautiful song of night no longer filled my head, her seductive voice or breathless moan were now only a distant hurtful memory of my minds ear. I could hear now only the irritating thud, that couldn't quite be described.
