The Universal Company of the MaritimeSuezCanal, formed in 1858, was one of earliest multinational corporations: its directors were French, Belgian, American, Russian and Venetian.
Through the war, Israel secured its maritime rights in the SuezCanal and weakened significantly Egypt's regular and irregular forces in Sinai and Gaza.
Second, by managing the SuezCanal in conformance with international maritime law, Egypt facilitated the smooth transport of petroleum products to global markets and prevented Iran from operating in the Mediterranean Sea.
