The leader of the Spanish opposition party, the SpanishSocialistWorkers' Party (PSOE), Joaquin Almunia, rejected ETA's claim that it was resuming the armed struggle because the other Basque parties had failed to rally to its call for pan-Basque elections.
The local SpanishSocialistWorkers' Party (PSOE) backed the campaign to honour Strummer's name, with a spokesman saying the musician embodied the "atmosphere of youth, rebellion, night and rock" and had "carried the name of Granada... for the entire world".
