In 2005, the TSA changed its policies to allow passengers to carry on airplanes small scissors, knitting needles, tweezers, nailclippers and up to four books of matches.
Small knives were banned along with a host of other undersized sharp objects, like nailclippers, screwdrivers and cosmetic scissors, after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.
