Shinkage-ryū is primarily a school of swordsmanship (kenjutsu and iaijutsu), and is a synthesis of Nobutsuna's studies in the schools of Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū, Nen-ryū, and Kage-ryū (Aizu).
