The Localism Bill currently going through Parliament includes plans to require councils and fire and rescue authorities to publish a statement setting out their policy on salaries and bonuses for chief officers which must be approved by all councillors.
Cypriot lawmakers have already approved a raft of cuts to government worker salaries and pensions as well as tax increases under a preliminary bailout deal.
That's because of a new "no budget, no pay" provision that says if a budget is not passed by April 15, senators' salaries will be held in escrow until a budget is approved.
