abstract:The Safe Schools Act is an Ontario bill, implemented in 2000 to provide a definitive set of regulations for punishments that must be issued for students. The bill is often referred to as a zero-tolerance policy, however "the presence of mitigating factors in the Act and school board policies precludes it from being strictly defined as a zero tolerance regime".
And the SafeSchools Improvement Act, sponsored by Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Representative Linda Sanchez of California, would require school districts to adopt codes of conduct specifically prohibiting bullying and harassment, including on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion.
Gun free zones only exist in schools as Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 and as amended by the The Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 in section 657 of the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997.
