In the Biblical story of David and Goliath, David initially puton a coat of mail and a brass helmet and girded himself with a sword: he prepared to wage a conventional battle of swords against Goliath.
He could have answered that with more teasing, more superiority possibly this was his notion of flirtation and I believe that if he had done so I would have puton my coat and walked out into the cold.
