Approximately 60 to 80 percentof marine debris is plastic, the majority of which is as a result of our mindless use of one-life plastics, 60 percentof which is comprised of plastic bags, Styrofoam (used for take away foods), drinks bottles and their caps.
Seventy percentof this debris is believed to have sunk offshore, but no one knows how much of the remaining 1.5 million tons are still floating in the Pacific Ocean.
