Though Reiss admits that the scanners "to a large degree will penetrate clothing, " he points to the lack of features in images of humans like those above and onthepreviouspage, pictures he says show far less detail than is captured in the airport scans.
As a result, the 7-AS is being followed by a larger machine, the Wendelstein 7-X, which is being built (see photograph onpreviouspage) by the Max Planck Institute in Greifswald and has a capacity of 30 cubic metres.
