abstract:Nvidia Optimus is a computer graphics hardware power/performance optimization technology created by Nvidia which, depending on the resource load generated by client software applications, will transparently and seamlessly switch between two graphics adapters within a computer system in order to provide either maximum performance or minimum power draw from the system's graphics rendering hardware. Specifically, Optimus is a particular implementation of what is commonly known as "switchable graphics" or, more generically, as GPU switching.
Featuring twice the number of CUDA cores and twice the graphics memory over previous generations, these new Quadro GPUs also incorporate NVIDIAOptimus technology, maximising battery life by automatically powering the GPU only when needed.
Easily handling the most compute intensive tasks, the LIFEBOOK S762 notebook features a magnesium-alloy cover, hard drive shock sensor, WWAN support, an HD WXGA LED backlit display, and optional NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 640M LE with NVIDIA Optimus(TM) technology for longer battery life.
While we told you earlier this week that the Ion 2-powered ASUS Eee PC 1201PN wouldn't be arriving until late May, a number of European sites have gotten early review samples of the 12-inch "netbook" -- if you choose to call it that -- and have discovered that it doesn't use NVIDIA's Optimus automatic graphics switching technology.
