Japan's major newspapers, including the Yomiuri Nihon KeizaiShimbun (the so-called Nikkei, the largest business paper) and the Kyodo press wire were all allocated choice downtown real estate for their headquarters by the Japanese government in the 1960s at bargain prices.
That this is no less true today than it was in 1998-99 is evidenced in an article in the July 31, 2011 issue Nikkei Veritas magazine, carried also on July 31 Nihon KeizaiShimbun.
