The town received 100 ofthe 300 pieces of snow-removal equipment loaded to Long Island towns from theNewYorkstate Department ofTransportation, theMetropolitanTransportationAuthority, NewYork City and Westchester County, said Vanessa Baird-Streeter, Suffolk County spokeswoman.
In addition to extended shifts among police officers, hundreds of National Guard members and state and MetropolitanTransportationAuthority police would help respond to the threat, NewYork Gov. George Pataki said in a statement.
