Author MarkHaddon, who penned The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, is shortlisted for the best adaptation writer category for BBC One's Fungus the Bogeyman.
Among the other academicians named at Wednesday's announcement at the British Library in London are AS Byatt, JM Coetzee, Sebastian Faulks, MarkHaddon, David Mitchell, Zadie Smith and Jeanette Winterson.
Playwright Simon Stephens, who adapted Mark Haddon's best-selling novel, joked on stage: "It's a remarkable thing to win an award for popularity - normally people leave my plays in a state of terror!"
