The majorityof the 19objectsrepatriated by the Met entered the museum collection because they werefoundin 1939 among the contents of Carter's house at Luxor.
Some travel guides have described Luxor as the world's largest "open-air museum."

The pieces came into the museum's collection from Mr Carter's niece and from his house in Luxor, Egypt, which he bequeathed to the museum, the museum said.
