BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. civil administrator for IraqL. Paul Bremer said that some soldiers of the dismantled Iraqi army started receiving salaries Tuesday, but an Iraqi sergeant warns that discontent still simmers among the defeated troops.
Bush was accompanied at the event by Joint Chiefs Chairman Richard Myers, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and the U.S. civil administrator for Iraq, L. Paul Bremer.
It was not immediately clear if the assessment was what prompted the hastily arranged trip to Washington by Iraq civilian administrator L. Paul Bremer, who met Tuesday at the White House with President Bush and senior national security officials.
