As my lips touched the surface of the water, I felt a familiar rising of panic. Adam's grip around me tightened. “It's okay,” he said. I closed my eyes, and then, felt the water close in around me. I remembered Lyn, and the dull pain that had started in my head, as I had sunk further and further out of her reach. I hung on to Adam for dear life, my nails digging sharply into his back, and then I felt his arms close in around me, and I suddenly felt unexplainably calm. I wasn't alone. He wasn't going to let go of me. I was safe.
