abstract:Hickstead (March 2, 1996 – November 6, 2011) was a stallion ridden by Canadian Eric Lamaze. With rider Lamaze, he was an Olympic gold and silver medalist in show jumping.
Whitaker, winner of 14 major championship medals, including Olympic silver at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, pulled both his entered horses, Ingliston Twister and VIking V, from Hickstead's Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the Speed Classic on Saturday.
Since then, he's covered some major sporting events: England winning the Ashes in 2005, the return of the England World Cup Rugby Team in 2003 to their Surrey hotel, the World Matchplay Championship at Wentworth, Show jumping at Hickstead, World Championship Darts at Lakeside, Derby Day at Epsom, Tennis at Eastbourne, Farnborough playing at Highbury in the FA Cup, to name a few.
