He was suspended when Rock of Gibraltar won the 2, 000 Guineas and then chose to ride HawkWing in the Derby - but came second to stablemate High Chaparral.
The 32-year-old rode a sensational race, taking up the lead with two furlongs remaining and holding off the challenge of stablemate and pre-race favourite HawkWing to win by two lengths.
