The first fire jump in the United States took place on July twelfth, nineteen forty, in the Nez Perce National Forest in Idaho.

The wind shifted in several directions, fanning thefireinthe Angeles National Forest to nearly 9 square miles, said U.S. Forest Service spokesman Nathan Judy.
They added that they also want to hear from anyone who saw any other vehicles inthe area around this time or who noticed fire or smoke inthe vicinity of theforest.
