The UK National Commission for UNESCO welcomes the announcement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to draw up a new UK TentativeList for nominations to the UNESCOWorldHeritageList.
The colonial city, which the Haitian authorities placed on their "tentative list" in 2004 with a view to proposing its inscription on UNESCO's WorldHeritageList, was very seriously affected by the earthquake.
The UK Government is preparing a new TentativeList of natural, cultural and mixed sites for potential nomination for inscription on the UNESCOWorldHeritageList, to be submitted to UNESCO in 2011, with a view to putting forward nominations to the WorldHeritage Committee from 2012.
