As a goodwillambassador for the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Kidman drew attention to the stalled International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA), a domestic effort to address violence against women globally.
The opening addresses were followed by a debate between prominent intellectuals and peace advocates -- including UNESCO GoodwillAmbassador Forest Whitaker, Deputy Executive Director of UNWomen, Lakshmi Puri, Wole Soyinka, Arjun Appadurai, Jeffrey Sachs, as well as Nasser David Khalili.
