While in the waiting room, the subjects met four other people who they thought were fellow volunteers, but who in fact were actors assigned to fake their response. To encourage group cohesiveness, the waiting participants and actors warmed up by playing practice rounds on laptop computers, taking pictures of one another, and generally getting acquainted.
