Often the only cooling source in a manufacturing plant or warehouse was a ceiling fan, with a yellow ribbon tied to theblade so that people could see that it was really going around.
Driven by a six-blade mahogany fan (see top picture) with a diameter of 9.1m, the tunnel was used to test full-sized aircraft prototypes like the Spitfire.
