Nowadays, chief executives of public companies are far more likely to be accused of selling their firms too cheaply to private equity in the expectation that they would personally be well rewarded by the new owners than to be criticised for resisting private equity's overtures.
In an interview with Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme, Mr Purslow said Liverpool's US owners would not be leaving and were trying to raise new equity for the club.
