abstract:New Deal for Communities is a regeneration programme led by the government of the United Kingdom for some of the England's most deprived neighbourhoods. The programme was established by Tony Blair's Labour Government and is overseen by the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit within the Department for Communities and Local Government.
The kits are being funded through the Burngreave NewDealforCommunities (BNDfC), which is working in partnership with South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield City Council.
The indices are used at both national and regional governmental level to target areas for Regeneration under schemes such as the "New DealforCommunities" and "Neighbourhood Renewal Fund".
If the GLC's policies for employment were damaging, then so is the government's NewDealforCommunities - a policy that makes clear that some of the GLC's thinking is alive and well in Whitehall.
