abstract:Mark Linkous (September 9, 1962 – March 6, 2010) was an American singer, songwriter and musician, best known as leader of Sparklehorse. He was also known for his collaborations with such notable artists as Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Daniel Johnston, Radiohead, Black Francis, Julian Casablancas, Nina Persson, David Lynch, Danger Mouse, and Sage Francis.
The producer and multi-instrumentalist Danger Mouse and MarkLinkous (also known as Sparklehorse) are two of the most inspired and imaginative artists making music today.
Ariana Murray's delicate clockwork waltz "The Thread" provides touching sentimentality, as does "Everytime I'm With You, " a song Lytle originally wrote with the late MarkLinkous of Sparklehorse for the Dark Night of the Soul project.
Dark Night of the Soul is about as strange and gloomy as you might expect from David Lynch or MarkLinkous, who tragically took his own life earlier this year. (One of the guest vocalists on the album, Vic Chesnutt, also committed suicide last December.) But Dark Night has its uplifting moments, too, with catchy pop and rock hooks and rhythms.
