The thermal imaging theory and the characteristics of infrared image are analyzed in this dissertation. Based on it, a number of theoretic algorithms of infrared image compression coding are explored.

After analyzing classic embedded coding algorithms such as EZW, SPIHT and EBCOT, it is shown that EBCOT is easier to accelerate with hardware and has better image compression performance.
