A White House spokesman says the president will talk to the nation about what his administration has done to help clean up the oil, limit the environmental damage and direct BP to stop the leak.

If the banks need public funds to help them cleanhouse (and Mr Yanagisawa's claims that they do not are disingenuous), the government should provide them directly with harsh conditions attached rather than give them an indirect, pain-free, bailout.
