abstract:Douglas Carter Beane is an American playwright and screenwriter. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Beane now lives in New York.
Choreographer Josh Rhodes said the script originally used dance only at the palace ball, but director Mark Brokaw and writer DouglasCarterBeane asked him look for danceable moments.
That's what DouglasCarterBeane does with "The Nance, " a dead-serious comedy set in New York circa 1937 in which Nathan Lane plays a self-hating gay man who makes a living playing outrageously effeminate gay men on the burlesque stage.
