One of its earliest discoveries was Benjamin Britten, who worked with the house happily for years until his favourite member of staff was dismissed so he went as well.
For the fourth Opera Annex show, the BLO co-commissioned "Clemency, " by the Scottish composer James MacMillan, with the Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera and the Britten Sinfonia, and presented its North American premiere at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter on Boston's South Side last week.
Britten, who was born in Lowestoft in 1913, lived in the Red House on Golf Lane with his partner, the singer Peter Pears, from 1957 until his death in 1976.
