The Russian-Belarusian nuclear power plant project, estimated to have a capacity of 2.4 gigawatts (GW) and set to be commissioned in 2018, has been a controversial topic given that the project was signed between Belarusian President AleksandrLukashenko and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the midst of the Japanese nuclear disaster.
This comes a day after a summit held in Astana at which the leaders of the three countries Belarusian President AleksandrLukashenko, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed official documentation calling for the Customs Code to enter into force trilaterally, following a bilateral agreement signed between Russia and Kazakhstan on July 1.
