计算机体层摄影（简称CT）是1973年才开始应用临床诊断的X线检查新技术，它具有快速、安全、无痛苦、定位和定性准确的优点，能早期发现较小的病变。由于CT的应用改变了我们对某些病变的认识，如小脑、脑干出血、脑出血和脑梗塞的鉴别诊断等。CT扫描完全或部分取代了既往的创伤性检查，如气脑造影、脑室造影和脑血管造影，使临床医生能够直观地看到脑室或脊髓内病变，大大提高了临床诊断准确率。
