胸椎管狭窄症是胸椎管横断面减小而产生的胸段脊髓压迫综合征，多见于中年男性，其病因主要来自发育性胸椎管狭窄和后天退行性变所致的综合性因素。早在1911年Teacher通过尸检证实胸椎间盘突出可以引起脊髓损害。黄韧带骨化导致胸椎管狭窄最早是Le Double于1912年提出的。在脊椎椎管狭窄症中胸椎管狭窄症远较腰椎和颈椎少见。
