肾上腺皮质是构成肾上腺外层的内分泌腺组织。它能分泌由数种类固醇混合而成的肾上腺皮质激素，皮质内还含有为数更多的类固醇。肾上腺皮质由3层构成，最外层为球状带（zona glomerulosa），接着为占大部分的束状带（zona fasciculata），内层为网状带（zona seticularis）。其功能异常可以引起肾上腺皮质功能亢进、肾上腺皮质功能减退、肾上腺皮质增生等。
从这里可以看到从胶囊向内的两个肾上腺皮质区：肾小球状带和网状带。
