紧张型头痛是成年人中最常见的头痛类型，其发病与社会心理压力、焦虑、抑郁、精神因素、肌肉紧张、滥用止痛药物等有关。本病多发于成人，尤以女性多见，病程大多较长，可持续数十年，常反复发作，轻者仅在明显紧张或忧郁时才发生头痛，慢性者头痛可持续数天或数周。一般表现为双侧持续性枕部或额部钝痛，可扩展至整个头部，常有压迫沉重感或头周围紧箍感，尽管有时可有轻度头昏、视物模糊或耳鸣，但很少有恶心、呕吐或全身不适。紧张、忧虑可诱发本病。
紧张型头痛(tension-type headache,TTH)指双侧颈枕部或全头部的紧缩性或压迫性头痛，是原发性头痛中最常见的一种。
