笼型绕组是一个自行封闭的短路绕组，它由插入每个转子槽中的导条和两端的环形端环构成，如果去掉铁芯，整个绕组形如一个“圆笼”，因此，称为笼形绕组。为节约用铜和提高生产效率，小型笼型电机一般都用铸铝转子；对中、大型电机，由于铸铝质量不容易保证，故采用铜条插入转子槽内、再用两端焊上端环的结构。 笼型感应电机结构简单、制造方便，是一种经济、耐用的电机，所以应用极广。
