短期预测是指预测的目标距现在的时间比较近而且经历的时间比较短的预测活动。短期预测的预测期限因预测对象的不同而长短不一。如产品销售预测1—6个月，技术预测1—5年，环境预测1—10年。短期预测一般与中、下级管理部门的工作有关。它所涉及的对象一般都有大量的数据作为预测的依据，同时往往是一些较细微、琐碎的事物。短期预测采用的方法有移动算术平均法、指数平滑法、分解和控制法等。
