溢泪症是指因泪道发生功能障碍，导致泪液外溢。人的眼泪来自于泪腺，泪腺由细管状腺和导管组成，它是分泌泪液的器官。眼泪产生后，通过泪道排出。泪小点异常或泪道异常如泪小点外翻、狭窄、闭塞或无泪小点时，泪液不能流入泪道，发育异常（先天性闭锁）、外伤、异物、炎症、肿瘤、瘢痕收缩或鼻腔疾患等使泪道狭窄或阻塞，均能发生溢泪。
