消渴病是中国传统医学的病名，是指以多饮、多尿、多食及消瘦、疲乏、尿甜为主要特征的综合病证。若做化验检查其主要特征为高血糖及尿糖。主要病变部位在肺、胃、肾，基本病机为阴津亏耗，燥热偏盛。消渴病日久，病情失控，则阴损及阳，热灼津亏血瘀，而致气阴两伤，阴阳俱虚，络脉瘀阻，经脉失养，气血逆乱，脏腑器官受损而出现疖、痈、眩晕、胸痹、耳聋、目盲、肢体麻疼、下肢坏疽、肾衰水肿、中风昏迷等兼证。
