流通证券亦称“可转让证券”，可以经过转让而自由流通的证券。按法律规定所产生的各种证券，如提单、栈单、票据、股票、债券等，都具有流通的性能，即它所代表的权利，可经证券的背书或交付而自由转让，受让人对证券的权利受法律保护。例如，某甲受骗对乙签发票据一张，随后乙转让丙，甲发现受骗而引起法律纠纷时，甲有权对抗乙，而无权对抗丙。这种证券 (尤其是商业票据) 只能在相互了解的当事人之间流通，范围受到一定的限制。
