架空地线又称避雷线，是指在高压和超高压线路上直接与大地连通的导线。由于架空地线对导线的屏蔽，及导线、架空地线间的耦合作用，从而可以减少雷电直接击于导线的机会。当雷击杆塔时，雷电流可以通过架空地线分流一部分，从而降低塔顶电位，提高耐雷水平。
